“Thatcher’s Peak Finders” featured in Gannett Paper
Democrat and Chronicle” features unique new guide for identifying Adirondack Peaks

ROCHESTER, NY - Leo Roth, avid outdoors columnist and reporter for the Rochester “Democrat and Chronicle”, highlighted Thatcher’s Peak Finder for the Northern Adirondacks in his full-page “Do It!” feature article on Sunday, May 23, 2010. Roth’s article is also available online at the Gannett newspaper’s website. ( note: link was updated to the D&C archived page on 11/13/2010)

“Owls Head is among the summits” selected for Thatcher’s Peak Finder for the Northern Adirondacks, writes Roth, “along with other family-friendly peaks such as Baker, Jenkins and Ampersand, as well as Azure and Mt. Arab, which feature historic fire towers. Two High Peaks are included: Whiteface and Cascade. Whiteface’s top can be reached via a vehicle using the historic Memorial Highway and Cascade, at 4,098 feet, isn’t a killer.”

“Baker is a good example” of the excellent views you can identify from these peaks with the help of Thatcher’s Peak Finder, writes Roth. “Baker, located outside the Village of Saranac Lake, is 2,441 feet”. At the summit, Mount Marcy (5,344) and Algonquin (5,114), the Adirondack’s two highest peaks, are visible along with the Saranac Chain of Lakes.”

About Thatcher’s Peak Finders
There are lots of great hiking guides for the Adirondacks, but when you reach the summits and overlooks one question still remains: What are we looking at?

Thatcher’s Peak Finders answer that question. Small enough to fit in your day pack, Thatcher’s Peak Finders feature a sturdy plastic rivet that holds the entire deck of line drawings together, allowing individual pages to simply rotate out of the deck like the blade of your favorite pocket knife. The pages’ detailed drawings are created from original photography shot specifically for each peak, so they represent what hikers will typically see without binoculars, and without distortion. Visit to see pictures of the Peak Finder and sample pages.

Thatcher’s Peak Finder for the Northern Adirondacks is also available online for $16.95 US, plus first class / priority shipping to addresses in the U.S. and Canada at
Visitors to the website can also see Google map locations of the ten hikes which include Whiteface, Cascade, Ampersand, St. Regis and 6 other popular day-hike mountains.

The Peak Finder is also available at several retail locations. The current list is on the AdirondackPeakFinders website.
